HOW TO GET THE WHITEWASH EFFECT ON YOUR CONCRETE CASTS
Here are some instructions which will enable you to get that whitewash effect that we have on some of the pictures of the casts made from our moulds like this one:
(By the way - if you want to buy the above mould then visit our website!! You'll find the mould listed there!)
This effect is really quite easy! Here's how I do it.
I use normal household emulsion paint. You'll need some black and some white paint.
Simply paint the whole cast white first and then leave this to dry. Once that's ready, paint over the whole thing with some watered down black paint. This is sometimes all you need to do, but if you find that the finished result is too dark, then simply use an old rag to clean off some of the black paint.
The trick is to use the rag to rub off only so much of the black paint. i.e. only rub the top parts of the casts, so that the black paint remains in the crevices. That way the paint will dry there and by doing so it brings out the details that stand proud.
HINT:
You'll need to do your "rag rubbing" fairly quickly before the black paint dries too much!
